Project overview

Optative-Visuals is a continuous self-initiated project, where I explore abstract representations of music, feelings and memories. Being a deeply personal and self-reflective person. The art I produce for OV, ends up representing a specific moment in time and I invite it's audience to create their own meaning and interpretation. For me, this gives the art a life of it's own. It's story continues in the next person's perception so I like to offer them as a blank unexplained slate. Meaning a lot more to mean that it might seem.

Challenge

Posting art online is innately vulnerable and due to the nature of the OV artwork, it felt like giving strangers a window to my mind. However, it is also quietly exhilarating.

Action

Creating artwork in high frequency is great for building up key creative habits and training intuition. Ultimately the artwork is the final output of that journey of developing skills. Specific pieces capture specific skills and features I was experimenting with. As it was a personal project I put a heavy emphasis on creating something entirely new each time.

Insight

Making a habit of self-expression is incredibly fulfilling. While art and design being separate, it allowed to me develop skills which I rely on in my design practice.
